Why was Australopithecus garhi so interesting? Webfossils are not directly associated with the BOU-VP-12/130 skull, and the authors do not identify any synapomorphies that might link the skull to Homo. In any case, they presented four phyletic trees (Figure 1), and in three of those, A. garhi was posited to be an ancestor of at least some members of the genus Homo.
