Evidentiality and mirativity
Webdebate within the literature as to whether or not mirativity is a separate semantic category, or simply an extension of evidentiality (cf. DeLancey 1997; 2001). One of the outcomes of this analysis is a unified treatment of mirativity: its effects are derived from other compo-nents of the grammar in a predictable way through implicature.
