Webb24 maj 2024 · INTRODUCTION. An intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) is a type of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) device used to quickly provide MCS in an array of clinical scenarios such as cardiogenic shock or persistent myocardial ischemia during myocardial infarction. The basic principles regarding use of the IABP are presented here. WebbAppropriate measures are often required to ensure adequate perfusion of vital organs in such patients. Of the invasive rescue measures chosen for the support of low cardiac output, the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) prevails. In common practice, a fluoroscope or x-ray unit is used to guide the insertion of the IABP catheter to the correct ...
Webb22 feb. 2024 · The physiological effect of IABP counterpulsation is augmentation of coronary blood flow, reduced afterload in the systemic circulation, and reduced myocardial oxygen consumption . Timing of IABP in the cardiac cycle is critical to maximize the benefit of the device (Fig. 24.1). http://www.calicutcardiosr.in/PPT/MISCELLANEOUS/IABP-DR%20ABHISHEK.pptx
WebbIABP treatment. For these reasons, we utilized a porcine model to specifically analyze the flow pattern of blood into the visceral arteries during IABP use. For this purpose, we measured the superior mesenteric, right renal and left renal flows before and during IABP support, using surgically-placed flowmeters surrounding these visceral arteries. Webboperation, the surgeon wants to insert an intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) before initiating cardiopulmonary bypass. An intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) is re-quested to ensure correct placement. (Anesth Analg 2011;113:40–3) T he intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) has been in clinical use for 40 years and is the most commonly
