WebPhelps Mountain is an easy hike in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks with fantastic views all around. The hike starts at Adirondack Loj in the High Peaks Information Center parking lot. From there, follow the signs for Phelps Mountain/Mt. Marcy. The trail to Phelps Mountain follows the Marcy trail for the first three miles. WebAug 22, 2006 · I don't find Phelps to be a very fast section of trail from the intersection. It's very eroded and wet. The Tabletop herdpath is in excellent condition, but beware of the mud on the ridge. It's deep and will cause you to slow down. Be sure to go a hunderd or more feet beyond the summit of tabletop for the views.
